Food waste and AD grants launched by WRAP

A financial support grant for developers of food waste and anaerobic digestion (AD) technologies has been launched by the Waste & Resources Action Programme (WRAP).

The Organics Capital Grant Programme VI will fund growth of animal by-product-compliant composting, thermophilic aerobic digestion and AD.

A WRAP spokeswoman explained that while the programme is not really something new, it does now have an increased focus on food waste and an emphasis on AD, a waste stream that has been highlighted as important by the Government in recent weeks (March 28, April 2 2008 mrw.co.uk).

Grants will be awarded to organisations in the UK that divert organic waste from landfill and produce recycled products. Money for up to 30% of the set up costs is available.

WRAP will run the programme and consult experts when assessing the tender bids.
