Four to fight it out for Peterborough recycling contract

Peterborough City Council has shortlisted four bidders that will compete for the contract to provide refuse and recycling collections, street cleansing and grounds maintenance.

The shortlisted companies are:

·         Amey

·         Enterprise

·         HW Martin

·         Veolia

The firms will now develop and submit detailed plans to take over these services. From the proposals, the council will shortlist at least two bidders with a view to announced the preferred bidder in early 2011.

Deputy council leader Matthew Lee said: “We have been delighted with the industry’s strong interest in our proposals. We now look forward to working closely with our potential partners in the intensive dialogue stage to refine and consolidate our wishes to progress towards a partnership that ensures we continue to improve our services and offer value for money to our residents.”

Peterborough council has two other lots going through the bidding process. These are contracts to build and operate a 65,000-tonne capacity energy-from-waste facility and to build and operate a materials recycling facility. Three bidders for each of these lots were announced in January and are currently submitting their outline solutions.
