Free paper recycling collections for Paddington

Businesses in Paddington will be able to have their waste paper collected, for free, as part of a recycling trial.

Paddington Bid, an organisation that works to make Paddington a better place, has initiated the three-month trial as part of a project to raise environmental awareness in the area.

From January 29, all local businesses will regularly receive rolls of recycling bags along with a postcard reminding them of what can and cannot be recycled and the collection time and date.

While residential recycling schemes are now common practice across the UK, regular free collections for business are still too few and far between. This new scheme is therefore good news for Paddington companies, and particularly smaller businesses that are less likely to be able to afford their own individual recycling arrangements, said

Paddington Bid chairman and owner of Paddington Jewellers Gary Goldston.

Recycling company Paper Round will be responsible for collecting the recycling bags every Monday evening. If the scheme is successful the project will continue throughout 2007 and be broadened to include other recyclables such as cardboard, glass and plastic.
