GD Environmental looking to grow after acquisition

Newport-based waste management company GD Environmental has acquired Skip Solutions, based in Llanelli, as part of a £3m investment plan to strengthen its presence in Wales and the south west of England.

The agreement sees GD Environmental acquire a five-acre waste transfer station, a fleet of seven vehicles and Skip Solutions’ staff and customer base.

GD Environmental intends to mirror its Newport recycling facility and landfill diversion operation at the Llanelli premises, and has submitted proposals  to introduce new technology for the processing of RDF, hard plastics, wood and liquid waste.

Mathew Roderick, GD Environmental’s managing director, said: “Acquiring Skip Solutions is part of our strategic growth plan in Wales and the South West, and plays a crucial part in expanding our business.  We have confidently positioned ourselves in the market to deliver our full range of waste management services to new and existing customers.”

The deal was financed by HSBC’s Cardiff and South East Wales Commercial Centre and was part of HSBC’s recently set-up fund for small and medium Welsh businesses
