Global packaging solutions

Examples of international packaging initiatives will be available via a searchable page on the Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP) website next month.

The International Packaging Study page will draw together WRAP’s findings of packaging minimisation solutions aboard. It will allow the user to search by product category, innovation platform, country of origin, and product title.

Work abroad includes the use of self-dispensing cereal containers by Australian grocery stores. Shoppers either scoop the cereal of their choice from a fixed airtight dispenser into a plastic bag, or pull the lever of an inverted container, allowing the cereal to fall into a plastic bag held beneath.

Returnable and refillable wine bottles were another initiative, where bottles with attached flip-open stoppers, could be returned after use to be refilled.

WRAP also plans to develop online advertising this year, to broaden its reach, and introduce its message to a new, more elusive audience.
