Good news: price of aluminium cans goes up

Novelis Recycling has announced that it is to increase the price it pays for aluminium cans from 13 April.

It will pay £500 for a tonne of baled and densified cans from UK sources and £450 per tonne for loose whole or flattened cans. This represents a £100 per tonne increase across both grades.

Novelis Recycling national manager Andy Doran told MRW: We are reflecting the market as we see it and global metal prices have picked up. We still have a need for metal and we are still producing metal so our prices reflect that.

Analysts have told MRW that with some metals including aluminium there has been more buying interest from export markets particularly in the Far East and this has been reflected in the LME.
