Green Economy Council launches

A council of green business leaders and Government ministers from environmental, energy and business departments has met for the first time to discuss the Government’s forthcoming Green Economy Roadmap.

The Green Economy Council is designed to advise how Government and industry can work together in order to arrive at a green economy, maximise opportunities for businesses and minimise costs.

One aspect of this discussion will be the Green Economy Roadmap, which sets out the Government’s long term strategy on climate change and the environment. The roadmap is being developed in conjunction with ministers from Defra, the department for energy and climate change (DECC) and business innovation and skills (BIS), who will also be present at the meeting.

Shanks managing director and Environmental Services Association chairman Ian Goodfellow, who attended the meeting, said: “The waste management industry wants to do more, but needs a smart, stable policy framework to do so. I’m looking forward to ensuring that the Green Economy Council is focused on delivering this.”
