Green Waste collections rise with wheeled bin introduction

Since introducing a wheeled bin garden waste collection service, Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council has seen its participation rate rise to more than 80%. The fortnightly wheeled bin garden waste collection service, launched during February and March, replaced an existing service where residents booked a collection and put green waste into bags. The contract to provide more than 86,000, 240-litre wheeled bins was completed by Plastic Omnium, with bins delivered over an eight-week period. Council recycling superviser Ian OBrien said: Even at a time when much of the country was at a standstill with bad weather and snow, Plastic Omnium delivered a well-planned and managed rollout and finished ahead of schedule. Although it wasnt the cheapest potential provider, we felt that it offered the greatest value. Plastic Omnium key account manager David Elliot added: Introductory information about the service was delivered with the bins and any exclusions were factored in.
