Greenstar buys Leicester Paper Processors

Waste management company Greenstar has bought Leicester Paper Processors, a commercial recycling business, to increase its network of materials recycling facilities (MRFs).

Leicester Paper Processors MRF processes 45,000 tonnes of recyclables a year and is part of Greenstars plans to develop a series of super MRFs near major urban centres. These super MRFs will link to a feeder spine of smaller MRFs, to process commingled and source-separated materials.

With this acquisition Greenstar chief executive Ian Wakelin said his company will be able to attract more commercial and local authority customers in the East Midlands and from this feed increasing volumes of material to Greenstars Aldridge plant.

Wakelin said: Leicester Paper Processors gives us the opportunity to further develop our combined waste and recycling service which is used by hundreds of commercial and industrial customers across the UK. Its popular because it helps companies to reduce waste, and therefore cost, and to meet their environmental obligations by recycling more. Our experience is that commingled collection schemes drive up recycling because they are so easy to use.
