Guide on MRF sampling published

Defra has published a reader-friendly guide on sampling requirements for MRF operators following the launch of the code of practice.

The document (file right) recapitulates details of the testing regime mandated by the code, which is set to come into effect in October 2014.

Reports on the sampling should be sent to the Environment Agency quarterly.

MRFs will be inspected at least twice a year by EA officials, including one unannounced visit.

The MRF regulations were formally been laid before Parliament in February. The code is being put forward as part of amendments to the Environmental Permitting Regulations.

  • I'm sure they were trying to be helpful but does this add anything to the regs? What is needed is guidance on how to take a "representative" sample and how to analyse it. Without proper sampling the data provided will be valueless.
