Half of UK's IT managers are oblivious to WEEE Directive

Only half of the UKs IT managers are aware of the Waste Electrical Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive, a poll has revealed.

One hundred and fifty firms from across the UK were surveyed on the effects the upcoming legislation would have.

Lombard GATX Technology ran the poll and assets management director Malcolm Plunkett said he was shocked at the results.

He added: Responsibility for this lack of understanding does come down to Government. We dont have things in place and there isnt enough information because the Government is still in final consultation about the directives implementation.

The poll also revealed that IT managers had seriously underestimated the cost of disposal of PCs.

In a study by research specialists Gartner, the cost of disposal was between $85 and $136 (£50 to £80) per PC depending on the disposal method. Three quarters of those polled assumed a figure below this range.
