Hard man of soap to warn of proper waste disposal

Soap star Ross Kemp, better known as EastEnder Grant Mitchell, will soon be warning businesses to dispose of hazardous waste properly.

Kemp will be the voice of an Environment Agency radio advert that launches in the North West in April, reminding people that it’s not big or clever to dispose of hazardous waste irresponsibly.

Part of the larger ‘Make Waste your Business’ campaign to clamp down on business committing waste crime, the advert will remind businesses that produce hazardous waste of their legal responsibility to register with the Environment Agency. Businesses must also ensure that they or anyone they contract to dispose of their waste does so properly.

Environment Agency regulatory officer Nigel Homer said: “We want to help businesses understand the options for waste disposal. Advice is available to help minimise the amount of waste they produce, which has cost benefits for them, and we want to make sure they are aware of their legal duty of care to dispose of waste responsibly.”
