Hazardous waste site for Grundon

The Environment Agency (EA) has granted a Pollution Prevention and Control (PPC) permit to allow Grundon Waste Management

to open a hazardous waste landfill site.

Grundon will have to operate the site at Wingmoor Farm in Bishops Cleeve, Gloucestershire, under what the EA believes will be the tightest regulations for a site yet.

The conditions mean that the EA will regularly inspect the

site to ensure that the effects on air, land, water and cover noise, and off-site dust, do not affect

the public.

Stuart Baker, EA area environment manager, said: We have examined this application very carefully to ensure that no significant risk is posed to health or the environment by the operation of the site, and that the legal

requirements are met.

The new regulations began in July to classify more items as hazardous waste and restrict the types of material that can be sent to landfill. It will also mean less sites available for hazardous waste.
