Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC) has delayed the publication of further guidance on the lower rating of landfill tax.
HMRC had launched an ‘informal consultation’ on a draft document clarifying the eligibility of materials for the lower rating of the tax after announcing in May that the £2.50 per tonne rate would no longer apply to waste products from recycling processes, grit and screenings.
HMRC said it aimed at publishing a final version of the document on 11 November.
But in an email sent to respondents after the end of the consultation on 22 October, HMRC said: “Owing to the number and nature of responses received, we now think it is unlikely that we will be in position to publish the draft guidance by that date. We will let you know when we are in a position to confirm the formal publication date.”
A HMRC spokesperson told MRW a publication date had yet to be set.
- UROC, the skip hire trade body, responded to the consultation saying that the lack of clarity on the application of the lower rate of landfill tax will lead to higher skip prices.
