Impax launches OEIC for environmental companies

Environmental fund manager, Impax Asset Management, who recently invested in waste company, New Earth Solutions, is launching a new open ended investment company (OEIC) focused on environmental companies.

The new Impax Environmental Leaders Fund is due to be launched on March 2008. Members of the general public looking to support environmental sector are invited to invest in the fund. In particular, the fund will focus on investing in alternative energy and energy efficiency, water treatment and pollution control and waste technologies and resource management. It will be available on Cofunds, the independent investment platform.

Impax chief executive Ian Simm said: Environmental investment is the most compelling secular growth story of the 21st Century. It has moved firmly into the mainstream over the past few years. The investment universe, previously the domain of small technology start ups, is now a rapidly developing area of global economy with spectacular growth prospects.

The new fund hopes to invest globally in quoted companies which have a market capitalisation of at least $500 million.
