Industry bodies join forces to promote corrugated cardboard

A programme to raise awareness of the benefits of corrugated cardboard as a packaging material has been launched by the Confederation of Paper Industries (CPI) and the Sheet Plant Association (SPA).

CPI Corrugated Sector manager Andrew Barnetson said: Corrugated packaging is the UKs favourite packaging material. Its benefits go far beyond the environment when you recognise the combination of simplicity, flexibility and fitness for purpose.

SPA chairman Graham Sutherland added: We have a number of initiatives that we will be announcing over the summer. It is very important to us all that customers and consumers appreciate the benefits of this unique material.

Corrugated packaging is said to have a recycling rate of 84% in the UK and comes from a sustainable resource.

The CPI Corrugated Sector represents the interests of independent board manufacturers and converters. The SPA is an association for independent sheet plants. Together, the organisations claim to represent more than 90% of the UK industry.
