Initial allocations allow time for feedback

By Rebecca ThyerWaste disposal authorities (WDAs) will receive their initial set of landfill quotas under the Landfill Allowance Trading Scheme (LATS) by the end of next month.Speaking at a briefing last week, Ray Alderton, head of landfill policy at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA), said the initial allocations would allow councils to give feedback to the Government before formal allocations were issued at the end of September.
