Investigation into tax dodging at East Lancs landfill site

An investigation has been launched at an East Lancashire landfill site operated by Sita, following allegations that a business was allowed to dump waste without paying landfill tax.

According to a report in the Lancashire Telegraph, between two and five staff at the site are understood have been suspended at the company’s Whinney Hill plant in Altham. It was also reported that an internal probe will investigate whether the staff received payments.

A Sita spokesman confirmed that an investigation into allegations against a number of staff is underway.
