Venture capital firm Ludgate Investments are set to launch a new fund focused on the European waste and recycling industries.
Chief investments officer Bill Weil told MRW the company saw good opportunities for investment in the sector.
“Our view is that this is a very interesting and niche area that we have found some good successes in and we see the opportunity for continued investment in this field.”
The company launched its first Ludgate Environmental Fund in 2007. Weil said more than half that fund’s investments were in waste and recycling.
It has raised over $100m (£63m) to invest in businesses including ECO Plastics, waste electronic recycler Terra Nova, anaerobic digestion operator Tamar Energy, and MBT and composting firm New Earth Solutions.
Weil said the new fund, due to launch towards the end of the year or early 2013, would be larger than its current environmental fund.
