Ireland's EPA launches new feature on website

Irelands Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), has just launched a major new enhancement on its website which allows the public to access environmental information about their locality, or any region in Ireland. ENVision is an interactive map viewer, similar to sites like Google Earth, with an Irish environmental focus. It can be used to find information on industrial or waste facilities currently licensed by the EPA. Director general Dr Mary Kelly said: ENVision places environmental data where it belongs, in a local setting, and so acts as a window to the environment. This new online viewer is the culmination of extensive work by EPA staff on Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and layers of underlying data, to provide the public with a whats in my back? view of EPA data. The launch of the ENVision online viewer shows that the EPA takes its role as an environmental data provider very seriously. We are committed to putting measures in place to make it easier for people to access and find any environmental data they need. ENVision can be accessed on the EPA website by going to EPA Maps in the top right hand corner of the home page at www.epa.ie.
