Joy Blizzard takes over as LARAC chair

The Local Authorities Recycling Advisory Committee (LARAC) has elected Joy Blizzard of Shropshire County Council as chair. She has taken over from Lee Marshall, who was previously head of Streetscene at Stratford-upon-Avon district council.

Marshall stood down as LARAC chair after he took a redundancy package from Stratford-upon-Avon and looked for another local authority post. He has now secured a position as Streetscene manager at Powys council, and told MRW he expects to start in mid-late February.

Blizzard said: “We hope to see Lee back shortly, but in the meantime I’m looking forward to the challenge.”

The reappointment of Marshall will be a matter for the LARAC executive to discuss at their next meeting in April.

In the meantime LARAC expects to be busy. Blizzard said: “With the waste strategy consultation, Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) and Landfill Allowance Trading Scheme (LATS) to name a few issues, the next few months will be extremely busy for local authorities and LARAC needs to ensure that it offers the best service to our members.”
