Lamp recycling collections on the increase, says Recolight

Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) producer compliance scheme Recolight says it has seen a significant rise in the number of one-off lamp recycling collections and is now making up to 30 collections per month.

Recolight has a network of 1,000  registered recycling lamp collection points, called RecoNet, across the UK and collects gas discharge lamps found in office, fluorescent and street lighting. One off collections at temporary sites are organised in conjunction with scheduled large scale refurbishments or nationwide re-lamping projects.

Recolight chief executive Eddie Taylor said: All organisations are becoming more aware of their responsibilities for environmental issues. They are becoming more aware of the WEEE and other waste management regulations in general.

Since 2005, Recolight has been operating a WEEE producer compliance scheme on behalf of lamp producers in the UK.

Taylor said: Recolight is continuing to see expansion in both the individual one-off collections and also the number of registered collection points in RecoNet and this will result in greater access and choice for users to safely dispose of their end-of-life lamps.
