Landfill sites: can they make your tongue tingly?

Health experts had to be called in after people living near a landfill site complained of tingly tongues, the Environment Agency (EA) has revealed.

The Primary Care Trust and Tewkesbury Environmental Health were contacted when residents near the Wingmoor Farm facility in Gloucestershire reported feeling ill.

People living near the Grundon Waste Management site said there was a nasty smell that gave them headaches, sore throats and tingly tongues.

EA officers attended the scene on September 21 and revealed last week that the most likely cause of the odour was contaminated waste soil.

The EA stressed that the soil was dealt with in the manner required by the sites waste management licence but that it was continuing its investigation.
