Landfill tax funds green building guide

A guide to building village halls with solar panels was launched last week, funded through the Landfill Tax Credit Scheme.

Waste Recycling Environmental's (WREN) Green Guide advises community groups planning new centres or meeting places on sustanable construction and renewable energy.

There are an estimated 17,000 community centres across the UK and WREN Leicestershire County Advisory Panel member Professor Tony Marmont said: "I hope that the information contained in this guide will convince readers that the extra cost of any renewable energy options and sustainable construction techniques incorporated into your community building project will be money well spent and will be your personal contribution to the future well-being of this planet."

WREN, a not-for-profit company, has distributed almost £75 million to over 3000 community and environmental projects through the Landfill Tax Credit Scheme since 1998, with the majority of its funding coming from the Landfill Tax levied by Waste Recycling Group.
