Levenseat rewarded by Novelis

A Scottish company has been rewarded for its performance in recovering quality aluminium beverage cans from the municipal waste stream.

Novelis has presented waste management company Levenseat with a quality award to mark good performances at its residual waste treatment plant in West Lothian.

Over a two year period, £70,000 has been invested in additional aluminium processing equipment, including an eddy current separator and a picking conveyor, with waste material sourced from the counties of North Lanarkshire and West Lothian.

Levenseat recycling development manager Angus Hamilton said: “With aluminium cans having the highest commercial value of any recyclable material in the domestic waste stream, we were determined to extract them from the residual waste collections.

“We’re grateful for the support we’ve received from Novelis to help us achieve our goal and with the good price for quality aluminium used cans; we fully expect to recoup the cost of the additional investment in a relatively short period.”

With the value of aluminium soaring and sourced drink cans supplied to Novelis trading at £950/tonne, the endeavours of Levenseat at its waste management and recycling site have proved extremely profitable.
