London Assembly environment committee welcomes Boris’ SME focus in waste strategy

The chair of the London Assembly’s environment committee has welcomed the Mayor’s focus on SMEs in his draft business waste strategy.

In a consultation response to the draft strategy, environment committee chair Darren Johnson said: “We are encouraged that the strategy acknowledges ‘the waste management challenges they (SMEs) face’, and that ‘greater recognition is required to help address their needs in this area’.”

Johnson also called for a greater number of SMEs to receive support from the Smart Green Business Group – a network group which aims to provide professional advice and support to 1300 London businesses.

According to figures released by the department for business innovation and skills, 837,605 London businesses are SMEs.
