Leading industry figures have suggested London needs to 'close the loop' with more technology aimed at recycling waste.
At a recent Inspired Recycling seminar, Westfocus researcher Anne Chick said: "We have to create markets for new products. If you collect the waste in, it follows on that you should create markets for it to be reprocessed."
Robin Snook, the project manager for London Remade said Inspired Recycling would promote the application of recycling technology to waste created by London in achieving the targets set by Ken Livingstone.
Inspired London aim to close the loop by offering advice, support and practical knowledge.
Centre for Environment and Safety Management manager Stewart Anthony: "Since 1996, landfill tax has gone up and up. It's like an escalator and will only ever go one way, especially in London. Companies are starting to realise this and as they recycle more new markets will emerge all the time."
