London's roads are paved with recycled glass

Transport for London has been praised by London Remade after using almost 5,000 tonnes of recycled glass on the capitals roads in the past two years.

The body responsible for implementing the mayors transport strategy has used 4,800 tonnes in the maintenance of 100 miles of road since September 2002.

After signing the Mayors Green Procurement Code, Transport for London has received advice on green procurement from London Remade.

London Remade Market development manager Tina Perfrement said: It is great to see that recycled products are being used throughout London. The use of recycled aggregate in our roads demonstrates how durable and successful recycled products are, and how easily they can become part of our everyday lives.
