Q: What is your product?
Innovative Safety Systems (ISS) has launched the RX3 RV4 hard disk recording (DVR) system, a successor to its market-leading RX2.
ISS is a vehicle safety and visibility technology provider specialising in the design, installation and servicing of reverse camera systems, vehicle CCTV, DVR, reversing radar, LED lighting, warning beacons, fuel saving and vehicle tracking devices.
Q: How does it work?
The footage from four cameras located around the perimeter of the vehicle is recorded via DVR, usually located in the overhead locker in the cab. A dashboard-mounted monitor provides a clear view from each camera to assist the driver during reversing manoeuvres.
Q: Where would it ideally be used?
The system is particularly useful for those involved in potentially hazardous activities that may attract false insurance claims, such as refuse and recycling collection vehicles.
Q: How is it different?
The RX3 system has improved image quality and frame rate, and the result is a smoother image.
The system also incorpor-ates a second, solid-state memory storage device in the shape of an SD card. This guarantees a faultless recording even in the event of a serious impact.
The RX3 also supports 3G live remote view with the addition of a low-cost 3G router and data SIM. This arrangement saves most customers money in comparison with similar products on the market.
A free GPS module is included with every ISS DVR system, with mapping software. This means the realtime location and speed of vehicles can be viewed.
Although difficult to quantify, DVR saves operators both money and resources, most significantly in mitigating false insurance claims.
The system is largely maintenance-free and comes with a three-year warranty. ISS keep customers updated regarding any software developments, and ensures they have the correct protocols for any new legislation.
Q: Life span?
Q: Future applications?
ISS is investigating developments to integrate with other vehicle systems involved with weighing, tracking and routing.

ISS sells across the UK, and there are more than 40 authorities using either the RX2 or RX3 system. The system is entirely expandable and, with RS232 ports, it integrates well with other technologies and information systems. The RX3 can replace the RX2 system retrospectively.
