Man arrested over waste site death

Lancashire detectives have arrested a man in connection with a death at a waste site in Burnley.

Stephen Whitehead, 49, above, was thought to be a casual employee of Pendle Skips and was discovered on 27 July with severe head injuries.

The Ambulance Service pronounced Whitehead dead at the scene and a post mortem examination established the head injuries as the cause of death.

Lancashire police said a 34-year-old man from Burnley was arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in custody.

Detective supintendent Paul Withers of the Force Major Investigation Team said: “We have a large team of detectives dedicated to this investigation and finding out exactly how Stephen Whitehead came about these injuries and the circumstances which led to his death.

“Specialist officers are supporting his family at this difficult time, and I would urge anyone with information about this man’s death to please get in contact with us at the earliest opportunity.”
