Man killed in cardboard baler at SITA UK site

A man has been killed after getting trapped inside a cardboard recycling machine at a SITA UK site in Wiltshire.

Paul McGuire - a 33-year-old man from Wootton Bassett, near Swindon - died on Tuesday August 16 at the recycling facility in Cricklade, Swindon.

It is believed that the man was inside a cardboard baler machine when it was switched on.

A statement from SITA UK said: "As this difficult time our thoughts are obviously with Paul's family, friends and work colleagues.

"Paul had worked for the company at the Swindon site for three months and was a well-liked and respected member of the team. Counselling has been offered to those within the team affected by yesterday's events.

"SITA UK takes its health and safety obligations very seriously. The events leading up to yesterday's incident are now a matter for investigation by ourselves and the Health and Safety Executive."

The company has shut the site and it will not re-open until the investigation has been completed.
