Anaerobic digestion (AD) specialist Local Generation has begun construction on its first plant in March, Cambridgeshire.
The 30,000 tonne a year facility will handle packaged and unpackaged food waste from its sister company Fenmarc Produce. It will generate 1.2MW of energy and is expected to be operational later in the year.
Local Generation has invested £6m in the facility, with extra funding coming from WRAP’s capital grant scheme.
Fenmarc managing director Richard Anderson said: “We’re looking forward to our factories being driven by green energy, offsetting our total power usage across our three sites. The project is a significant investment for the group and is part of our ongoing environmental plan, contributing to a sustainable green future.”
