The local authoritys recycling, waste collection and household waste recycling centres will be managed by the firm from April next year for an initial seven years, with the option of extending the contract for a further seven years.
This different approach is focused on using May Gurneys kerbside sort solution called MaGos May Gurneys Optimum Solution. This entails a weekly collection of kerbside sort collectables and food waste in one vehicle and a twice weekly collection for the remaining waste. May Gurney claims this generates higher capture rates and reduced tonnage reaching landfill.
May Gurney chief executive Philip Fellowes-Prynne said: The service solution we developed for Bridgend focuses on delivering higher recycling rates, sending less waste to disposal and includes recycling a far wider range of materials than more traditional approaches.
Similar services are delivered by the firm to 18 local authorities in the UK, which includes the recently announced £85 million, 14-year contract for North Somerset Council.
