The Elemos is a suite of software from AMCS designed to support the end-to-end operations of recycling and waste management companies including MRF management and control. The range can handle everything from on-vehicle and in-the-field computing, through weighbridges, routes, prices, inventory, grading, commodity sales, invoicing, credit control, analysis and communicating with customers.
It is designed to support the end-to-end operations of recycling and waste management companies including MRF management and control. The system can be fully integrated with weighbridges, pallet scales and fork-lifts, accurately tracking movements in, through and out of MRFs while leveraging the data captured for analysis of the facility’s performance.
Examples of tasks supported by Elemos include:

- planning of material sales from predicted production
- billing and invoicing
- management communications
- accident and incident management
Furthermore, the Routeman Mobile handheld applications facilitate more direct capture of grading information of material into MRFs. These applications can help streamline the communication process to handle contamination in loads.
At this point it is unrealistic for any software to claim it could fully support the requirements of the MRF Code of Practice but we believe Elemos helps support a well run MRF and therefore will be ideally positioned to support MRFs in adhering to a mandatory code.
The AMCS Elemos software platform has recently taken a technological refresh. The module based design allows flexibility to different customers’ needs. Elemos can be scaled to manage the simplest of skip management companies and expanded with additional modules to suit the largest multi-national material management companies with everything they need in one package.
AMCS works closely with clients to develop and implement dedicated systems to grow with their business by visiting facilities, understanding workflows and practices, and through dedicated project management, and experienced support teams. Elemos can be fully integrated with on-vehicle technology to harvest valuable data direct from collection vehicles; monitoring presentation rates, driver and route performance.
Systems integration is handled by a dedicated team, experienced in integrating with everything from accounting systems to laboratory analysers.
The Elemos solution resides on a web-deployable platform; positioning our customers on a platform that is sustainable into the future as it is compatible with cloud-computing and computer tablets, for example. Its web access assists clients in their CRM process, providing secure web access for customers to view reports on the likes of landfill diversion and recycling rates as well as update their own account details.
AMCS has just released Routeman Mobile 5, its latest mobile software offering, which can be platforms such as mobile computers, handhelds and tablet devices. The in-cab software from AMCS offers accurate customer identification and bin collection validation to the domestic and commercial sectors.
The software visually helps the driver perform their daily collection route by displaying the planned work for the day. Through the use of a fully functional “SatNav” the driver can navigate the route to each pickup location with the latest maps and turn-by-turn assistance. Vehicle specific routing, to help avoid weight restrictions and low bridges is also available, as is voice and interface support for multiple language packs.
Routes and route updates can be generated and immediately sent to the driver. With the user friendly touch screen the driver can see, at a glance, completed tasks in a route list and quickly spot any missed collections on the map. Drivers can report any missed collections by choosing from a list of reasons allowing the driver to flag up if the collection is not accessible. That information is available in near real time for colleagues back in the office.
Ad hoc pickups can also be sent to a particular vehicle in response to a customer call such as in the case of a valid missed bin. The driver can respond to the callout, which is then highlighted on the screen.
Assisted collections and those requiring special attention on a given route can be highlighted and the on-board software will alert the driver using sound and visual aids.
Real-time service verification leads to minimised customer call handling as well as a reduction in costly call outs to deal with missed collections. Every missed collection can be quantified. Photographic reporting of blocked access, missed collections or recycling contamination is planned for release in summer 2012.
Each bin lift is automatically associated with a customer using radio frequency identification (RFID) or our GPS identification process. The software integrates with both AMCS and third party systems to provide RFID and weighing solutions. Designed to interact with AMCS office software, this end to end solution from the container lift to the service provider’s administration team allows our customers to accurately monitor and control their daily operations and profitability.
Significant cost-savings can also be realised when combining Routeman’s real-time tracking with route optimisation software. The CANBus system is integrated with both office based reporting and immediate driver feedback to encourage economic driving.
Local authorities working to increase their recycling rate can benefit from Routeman Mobile. Using modern analysis and reporting techniques, the system offers local authorities the insight into recycling participation rates and areas where recycling initiatives would be most beneficial.
When combined with AMCS’s Elemos solution, companies operating commercial or industrial waste collections can use Routeman reporting for customer billing and invoicing.
AMCS has a dedicated support team and using remote monitoring software our support staff can see and interact with the drivers screen in real time. They can also change configurations and schedule rollout of software upgrades automatically on a vehicle by vehicle or depot basis.

AMCS group was contracted by a multi-national recycling company to supply its identification and on-board computing solution along with its office software, to assist its operational efficiency and improvement in profitability.
The project involved the fitting of approximately 150 vehicles with the AMCS technology plus the training of drivers and depots in the use of the mobile and office software. There has also been a significant project management effort by the customer to convert the benefits of using the system into operational cost savings and increasing depot profitability.
The system has resulted in increased knowledge of customer behaviour whilst at the same time increasing the profitability in operations. The AMCS system allows the user to identify and track every bin lifted. The data can be viewed in the office software in real time as every system fitted transmits its collection data over the mobile network during the course of the collection round. The use of the route list functionality of the mobile software means the operator has the opportunity to make the planning of the operation fully electronic.

Acumen Waste Services
Acumen Waste Services provides waste management services nationwide across the UK. It specialises in the handling and treatment of all types of hazardous and difficult waste materials, with services ranging from regular waste collections, through to total waste management contracts and project based services such as site clearance and decontamination, tank cleaning and mobile waste treatment solutions.
Acumen has been using the AMCS waste management software for over seven years and it has helped Acumen function more efficiently and provided increased visibility of all stages of their efficient delivery processes. AMCS developed a bespoke link between Acumen’s accounts package to enable credit checks, balances, invoices and PO’s to be shared between the two systems.
The project has also helped Acumen maintain its compliance record and ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management Systems accreditation. Acumen uses AMCS software for: job control, cost control, transport, invoicing, financial integration.
