Defra is expected to lay a MRF code of practice before parliament this month and for implementation in October.
Richard Pullen, head of waste and regulation at Defra, reportedly made the announcement earlier this week at a conference in London.
A spokesperson for Defra said the MRF regulations were due to be laid “shortly” but was unable to confirm the October deadline for them to be fully implemented.
Colin Church, director of resource, atmosphere and sustainability at Defra, told MRW that the code of practice would be included in a revision of the Environmental Permitting Regulations.
It would need to be laid out before Parliament for at least six months before coming into effect, he added.
