New Earth Solutions wins first Scottish contract

New Earth Solutions has been announced as preferred bidder for a major waste contract with Scottish Borders Council.

The award is the firm’s first Scottish venture, which will see it develop a mechanical biological treatment facility to treat 45,000 tonnes of residual waste. New Earth will also process another 25,000 tonnes of mixed dry recyclables and green waste from April 2012.

New Earth Solutions contracts director Richard Brooke said: “The Easter Langlee facility will be our farthest north, truly expanding our reach to cover the UK mainland.”

Using New Earth’s advanced thermal conversion technology, the plant will generate 3MW of electricity and heat – enough for around 3,000 homes.

The 24-year contract is expected to be signed in the Spring with the MBT facility up and running in October 2012.
