New guide for anaerobic digestion sector

A new guide for developers of anaerobic digestion, said to be the first of its kind for 25 years, is being prepared by the industry’s representative body.

The Practical Guide to AD includes information on planning and permitting, health and safety, digestate standards, feedstock characteristics, design build and commissioning.

The Anaerobic Digestion and Biogas Association (ADBA) says the guide is designed to help developers, operators and suppliers.

Charlotte Morton, ADBA chief executive, said: “The AD industry has a huge potential role to play in moving to a closed loop economy which makes the most of its resources. In order to achieve this potential the industry needs support and easy access to the wealth of information held within the sector.

“This is why we have worked with our members and working groups to produce this guide, to promote and disseminate good practice throughout the industry and providing a platform to develop further technical guidance as required.”

ADBA says the initial version is a preview edition for feedback from members with the first edition, with any amendments due for release in February.
