New guide to help wood recycling companies

The Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP) has launched a guide aimed at helping wood recycling companies develop and implement a successful marketing programme.

The WRAP Guide to Marketing Recycled Wood Products gives an assessment of market and business opportunities and an explanation of the kind of products recyclers will need to manufacture in order to meet market demand.

These include animal products such as equestrian surfaces and bedding, landscaping and horticultural products such as surfaces for pathways and play areas and renewable fuel for energy production.

WRAP material development manager for wood Julia Turner said: "The first section is intended to help companies decide if making a product made from recycled wood is for them. Then, for those without marketing resources to hand, the remaining sections will help to get things up and running. There is also a section listing sources of grant aid."

The modular format of the guide is designed for ease of use and explores the production and implementation of a marketing plan. Communications such as advertising, direct mail, public relations and website development are also explored.

Turner added: "The guide contains something for everyone, even those companies that have been involved in wood recycling for years."
