Family-run Cawleys waste management has appointed a non-Cawley to the helm for the first time in the firm’s 60-odd year history.
Richard Hudson has been appointed as managing director of the firm, taking over from Jon Cawley, who will become Chairman and ensure the family ethos is maintained.
Hudson’s background is in construction, waste management and recycling, most recently as chief operating officer at Reconomy. Before this, he spent 15 years in the construction and utilities industries as a director of McNicholas.
Commenting on his new appointment, Hudson said: “One of the key strengths of my predecessor Jon Cawley’s leadership has been providing clients with positive alternatives to landfill, through initiatives such as recycling food waste and investment in new more efficient recycling facilities.
“As MD I’m keen to continue to demonstrate that sustainable waste management has a positive impact on the bottom line for our customers and industry, by unlocking the real economic value of waste, as well as a positive impact for society as a whole in environmental terms.”
Cawleys now employs over 250 staff and had a £24m turnover in 2009.
