New recycling campaign targets hair salons

An eye-catching new poster campaign in Cornwall hopes to set tongues wagging at local hairdressers and salons.

Recycle for Cornwall’s latest drive has targeted hairdressing salon customers, who tend to spend a lot of time waiting for their appointments, and while getting their hair done.

Cornwall county council waste management officer Richard Bower said: “We all put up posters in places where people gather. We asked ‘Where else do people gather in numbers?’ and thought it might be an original idea.”

The posters bear the strap line ‘Don’t just wash and go…recycle’, which had to be cleared with Proctor and Gamble who own shampoo brand Wash & Go. Cornwall county council have arranged for the posters to be distributed free to local salons via the area’s main wholesale salon supplies distributor.
