Nothing is impossible

Hyndburn Borough Council environmental maintenance manager David Allonby has been shortlisted for a Public Servant of the Year Award 2004.

Allonby (pictured) is a finalist in the Nothing is Impossible category the turn-round manager award for his recycling work with the council.

He changed the councils household recycling rate from a static 6% to 20% between April and September 2003. Allonby managed this by securing £627,000 from the Government and a joint bid for £95,000 with the Lancashire Waste Partnership to introduce kerbside recycling collection to 98% of the boroughs households.

The winner will be announced on May 10.
