Novelis Recycling has provided specialist baling equipment to assist in the handling of aluminium cans at a materials recycling facility (MRF) operated by H W Martin Waste in Leeds.
The H W Martin MRF opened last year and handles dry recyclables, including aluminium cans, collected from several local authorities in and around Yorkshire, including commingled material collected from 330,000 households in Leeds on behalf on the city council.
The baling equipment provided by Novelis and partly funded by revenue from the sale of Packaging Waste Recovery Notes (PRNs), has been provided as part of the aluminium reprocessors ongoing support for aluminium packaging recycling programmes across the UK.
Development executive Bob Meath said: H W Martin has been a supplier of quality used beverage containers to Novelis for several years, and we are pleased to be able to help their MRF in Leeds by supplying this baling equipment. The Leeds facility is an excellent example of how a MRF can be planned and set up to successfully separate high quality aluminium cans from commingled collection.
