On-the-spot weighing

Q: What is your product?

Vehicle Weighing Solutions (VWS), an on-board vehicle weighing, wheeled bin weighing and load protection systems company, has re-adapted its weighing and load cell technology to introduce Skip Weigh.

Q: How does it work?

Skip Weigh turns a skip into a weighing device to give operators on-the-spot weights at the point of collection. With the addition of high accuracy, robust load cells and using wireless technology, the weight of the skip is automatically displayed on a hand held reader when the operator lifts the skip.
The information can also be printed in the vehicle cab or transmitted to a central accounting or ICT system.

Q: Where would it ideally be used?

Skip Weigh can be used on any skip: Harsh, Hyva, Ebro, Boughtons and more.

Q: How is it different?

Skip Weigh does not change the existing configuration of the skip. It has exactly the same footprint and no space is wasted. The load cells are fitted to the loading arm.

Q: What are the benefits?

With increases in landfill tax, operators more than ever need to know exactly what weight they are collecting from each skip, so they can charge customers accordingly. Skip Weigh helps to prevent vehicle/axle overload, which not only damages vehicles but can also lead to costly fines.

Q: Where has it been used?

Skip Weigh was first developed for a VWS customer, one of the country’s largest metal recycling companies.

Q: What is the cost?

Less than £4,000 fitted, including 12 months’ warranty.

Q: Any savings?

Skip operators can charge each load accurately and protect their vehicles from overloading.

Q: What about maintenance?

With no moving parts, Skip Weigh has almost zero maintenance.

Q: Is it future-proofed?

VWS is developing its weighing technology and load cells for mobile crane weighing and hook weighing applications.

Q: How many sold and where?

VWS has sold more than 30,000 load cells across UK and mainland Europe, and is currently expanding its operations into the US and further into Northern Europe.
