Online marketplace for paper trading launches

Packaging recovery note trading platform the Environment Exchange has launched the ‘UK’s first online recovered paper marketplace for OCC and news & pams’.

The marketplace will allow OCC and news & pams to be traded online in the same way PRNs are.

When it went live at 1pm on 15 March it had bids totalling 3,160 tonnes trading at prices between £120 and £135 per tonne.

At the launch event at The Paper Trail’s Frogmore Mill, Environment Exchange managing director Angus Macpherson said: “It is a great opportunity for industry, particularly now at a time when we are seeing a clear political shift from a waste industry to a resource industry, a growing scarcity of primary resources and a growing acceptance of raw material commodity standards and internet trading.”

The marketplace has wide industry support with founding members including Aylesford Newsprint, International Recovered Paper, Mark Lyndon and Palm Recycling.
