Onyx invests in Glacier

Waste management firm Onyx has committed itself to reducing the amount of virgin raw materials used in cement production.

It has increased its share in Glacier, a join venture between Lafarge Cement and Swiss company Geodur, with the aims of identifying and blending mineral-based wastes for use as alternative raw materials for cement manufacture.

The increased investment makes Onyx a major shareholder along with Lafarge.

It will help Glacier secure the funds needed for the progressive development of a series of regional waste-processing centres.

The first site has been established at Sheffield with the second of these to be set-up at Avonmouth.
