Marks & Spencer has won an award for innovation at the Institute of Packaging Starpack awards.
The award for “best packaging innovation leading to a significant reduction in household waste” was for a new design for ready-meal packaging that used 30% less material. It was described as being stiff and robust while remaining cool to touch after cooking. Improved seals also reduced leakage and wastage, increased shelf life, and reduced the need to rework the packaging during manufacturing.
Three other innovative designs were recognised in the category: Amazon and Video Island Entertainment for their 100% recycled and reusable cardboard postal pack; Youngs and Co Brewery for its Portabottle carry-home pack that used 15% less cardboard; and M&S for its recycled PET content drinks bottles and salad bowls.
