Packaging consultation

Proposals for the introduction of a new online electronic data system for the packaging industry were issued for consultation by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), the Welsh Assembly Government and the Scottish Executive last week.

The proposals aim to speed up data collection by allowing reprocessors and exporters to report electronically and allow data to be released to industry more quickly. Under the proposals producers and compliance schemes will also be able to submit registration applications, issue packaging (waste) recovery notes (PRNs) and packaging (waste) export recovery notes (PERNS) electronically.
