Palm Recycling introduces first dual-stream system with contract extension

Palm Recycling has won a seven-year extension to its kerbside collection contract for Hinckley & Bosworth Borough Council, which has led to the introduction of its first dual-stream system.

Since 17 January, residents separate their recyclables into a box or bin for mixed glass, a hessian bag for cans, mixed plastic and Tetrapaks and an extra hessian bag for mixed paper and card.

Palm Recycling has provided four new split-bodied collection vehicles for collections.

Business manager Sarah Swain said: “We have worked closely with the council in developing a dual-stream system that is suited to residents’ needs and the borough’s demographics.

“We have achieved this through providing a simpler container solution, aligning refuse, green waste and recycling collections, and increasing the range of recyclables that residents can present. This has resulted in savings which are estimated in the region of £250,000 a year.”
