Phone recycler gets 30 million hits

An internet-based recycling company is celebrating after receiving 30 million hits on its website in just five months. was set up in March 2006 in an attempt to recycle some of the 100 million old mobile phones that are thrown away in Europe every year. Since then it has paid out £400,000 to users and given donations of over £45,000 to charity.

The company offers a purely web-based service, and lists over 800 phones to trade in, with £100 given for various makes and models.

It has recently partnered with Manchester-based UKFast to provide a solid web hosting solution that can support with growth and the roll-out of recycling services throughout Europe.

UKFast managing director Lawrence Jones said: Mobile phones are part of our hectic lifestyle and more often than not theres no time to stop and think about how to dispose of them in an environmentally friendly way.

Now its simple and the process benefits so many- its a win win situation. We knew when approached us that this was a revolutionary idea.
