Praise by ESA for landfill tax offset

The Environmental Services Association (ESA) is pleased that Chancellor Gordon Brown raised landfill tax to £8 per tonne as the increase will be offset by reductions in corporation tax. (click here for story)

ESA chief executive Dirk Hazell said: ESA warmly welcomes todays announcement which sees a return to fiscal neutrality on landfill tax paid by business.

We are pleased that additional tax revenue from business as a result of the increase in this component of the landfill tax escalator will be recycled to business through the reductions in corporation tax.

This reflects ESAs long standing and consistent policy that environmental taxes should be fiscally neutral to business.
